Line up(s) available: 4 piece (quartet) Founded in 1986, original members of The Giant Hamsters are Greg Cracknell & Peter Hopson. With Greg & Peter meeting in College, together they have been involved with bands which have impacted in a variety of ways on the Australian music scene. 1. Beathoven, a fresh faced bunch of boys dressed in Top Hats & Tails, playing original music and at one point in line for acclaim at Countdown's King Of Pop Awards. 2. The Innocents, releasing 2 top selling singles "Sooner Or Later" & "Come Tonight" before disbanding to launch the third band 3. The Fabulous Beagles. The latter being a "hit" on the Uni circuit, playing at wild campus parties as well as at all the happening pubs & clubs around Tasmania. The last incarnation involving the 2 members is The Giant Hamsters, a pop/rock vocal harmony band that has built a repertoire of hundreds of songs from classic British/American and Australian Pop/Rock from throughout the decades. The Giant Hamsters boasts 4 vocalists with the instrumentation featuring keyboards, guitars, drums and bass rounding out the sound. The Giant Hamsters are Tasmania’s premiere band, and have an extensive list of credits including playing support to national and international touring artists to Tasmania. Audiences appreciate the skill and presentation of the Hamsters' ballads and the energy and bombardment of the bands' dance music and the party vibe coming from the musicians as they seek to dance the audience to death with a juke box style of playing best loved songs that other bands don’t play plus of course the classics. Being just at ease with the Everly Brothers to Deep Purple to the Beatles to Bon Jovi to Robbie Williams and having 4 quality singers this is quite a unique band. With this versatility the Hamsters has also found a niche in performing at National Conferences within Tasmania & interstate.
