We play you favorite Vinyl record hits (and lets face it some digital stuff is great also !). Corporate functions, charity events, outside concerts, large birthday parties, pubs, clubs, bamitzfa’s, heck we’ll even play at a funeral if that’s what you want! We are a bunch of six professionals who have returned to our first love - Music. We all have successful careers but recently rediscovered how great music is to play and entertain people. Just like rediscovering that warm and fuzzy feeling when you fall in love, so to is our commitment to music and your entertainment. We dusted off our instruments and started a band. We are a group of muso’s who first gave away music for a mortgage, wife, children and a career. But now we are BACK ! and this is how Vinyl Countdown was started. Vinyl Countdown— BIO Alexander - Drums As soon as Alex could walk, his dad bought him his first set of drums, and from a young age he was right in the mix of rehearsals with his dads band. In High school Alex swapped his drum sticks for a tenor saxophone and completing 4th Grade A.M.E.B exams at the Victorian School of Music. Alex played in many Symphonic March bands, helped out in many amateur studio recordings and played the Melbourne Concert Hall and Dallas Brooks Hall. Swapping his saxophone for drum sticks in his late teens and early 20’s he played with various cover bands around Melbourne. After establishing a successful IT career and focusing on Voluntary work with children, Alexander now returns to his first love of playing drums and is excited to perform yet again to share the pleasure of music. Joe - Bass Guitar Like most good bass players Joe provides solid driving bass lines to the rock songs, funky rhythm to the pop and also solo’s in a couple of songs. With many years of experience in a variety of cover bands Joe’s knowledge of music and the bass is excellent. In his spare time, (what’s left between a job, family and the band), he teaches bass guitar and occasionally brings his students along with him to gigs and band rehearsals with Vinyl Countdown in order to give them real world experience. His Fender Jazz bass, Trace amp and Hartke quad box provide the smooth sound that he is known by. Geoff – Rhythm Guitar & Vocals Geoff picked up a guitar in the late 70’s and taught himself to play. Playing gigs in cover bands on and off for about 6 years he finally sold his gear and headed to the United Kingdom and Europe for the big O.E in 85. Returning a year later he got a hair cut, a real job in the IT sector and started a successful career in I.T. for the next 20 years. A couple of years ago, when sanity returned, he decided to start having some real fun. A new Fender Stratocaster guitar and a Peavey Classic 30 Amp were all that was need to put a smile on his dial. Peter – Keyboards & Vocals Initially learning and playing the electric keyboards, Peter progressed to lead tenor saxophone at his school’s 35 piece band. Peter played in many cover bands around Melbourne during the eighties including ‘Bit by Bit, ‘Time is Tight’ and ‘City Lights’ at various corporate and private functions including regular stints at The Grain Store in King St and the Macs Hotel in Melton. Having played keyboards and guitar most of his life, Peter even turned his hand to composing music. His musical compositions reached the final of the Melbourne Italian Song Festival in 1986 and supported the Americas Cup Challenge in 1987. Building a successful sales and management career, Peter returned to his first passion, music, heading up Vinyl Countdown as musical director. John - Lead Guitar John taught himself to play guitar and read music as a teenager and today is an accomplished musician, having played many corporate and private functions with his old funky rock blues combo. Having paid his dues over the last 10 years, one year doing over 80 gigs, he brings a wealth of experience to Vinyl Countdown. With his Gibson guitar and Rivera amp John can produce sweet mellow tones all the way to the grunt and cutting edge energy of a hard rock ‘n’ roll player. After listening to John play you could swear he was plucked from your favourite Dire Straights, Van Halen, LRB, Eagles or Carlos Santana album. Geoff – Lead Singer With productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Les Miserables and the lead roll in Godspell under his belt, Geoff brings his unique talent to Vinyl Countdown. Geoff has a unique voice that can reproduce a mixture of Roy Orbison, the Bee Gees, John Lennon, crowded house and Robbie Williams. Close your eyes and you could almost believe you were in your own private concert listening to these stars. With a voice that is worthy of prime time radio air play, Geoff brings his unique vocal sounds and style to Vinyl Countdown as the lead singer.
