Fly South

Acoustic trio Fly South are a musical adventure, that journey through several genres including folk, jazz and avant-pop. The group was founded mid-2006, with the goal of developing original compositions and contemporary standards in an acoustic setting. They have been compared to several artists including Billie Holiday, Jose Gonzales, and Bob Dylan. Each member has their own distinct style, along with a combined love of melody, harmony and the subtle art of ‘the song’.

The trio consists of Matt Welch’s magical guitar plinkings, the stunning violin of Jacqui McKinnon, and Roni Shewan on the glokenspiel and percussion. Matt and Roni also share vocal duties, with the three members of the group contributing lush vocal harmonies where needed.

2007 saw Fly South perform extensively around Melbourne’s live music circuit, playing at numerous well known venues including the Northcote Social Club, Wesley Anne, The Cornish Arms, Bender Bar, Palookaville and the Espy.

A song of thiers was chosen for University of Melbourne’s Mudfest live clips project, and they performed live to air on channel 31. The trio were also employed for several corporate functions, parties and weddings.
