Line up(s) available: 2 piece (duo), 3 piece (trio), 4 piece (quartet) The Urban Gypsies are an instrumental Jazz/ Latin/ Classical/ Contemporary guitar duo. They represent an exciting direction in Latin / Classical mixed with funk, rumba and gypsy swing. The music varies from fiery guitar virtuosity through to lounge bossa nova, classical pieces and popular classics.
The original members of the group were noted Australian guitarists Gavin Libotte and Glenn Rogers. From this fiery duo came the album Gypsy Fever and a series of concerts at the Fremantle Arts Centre, Perth Jazz Society, Kulcha, Fairbridge Festival and Joondalup Festival. They have also supported international artists such as Kristina Olsen, Cassandra Wilson at the Perth Concert Hall, and the Buena Vista Social Club on their Australian tour. Following this period Gavin Libotte’s move to Sydney prompted guitarist Simon Philips to join him to create a more progressive version of the group. Recently they have had huge success playing at the Barossa Valley Wine Festival, Braidwood Festival, Sydney Acoustic Guitar Festival, MIldura Jazz Festival and many more. They have held residencies and concerts in exclusive Sydney venues including Cargo Bar, The Basement, Watershed Hotel in Darling Harbour, Cafe Sydney, Side on Cafe, and Hemmesphere. They recently impressed large audiences at the Bellingen Global Carnival. Perfect for corporate functions, parties, events and weddings. They can provide the ideal atmosphere for your special event.
