Why choose Undercover Cool for your important function?

  • You want your guests to be entertained in style by professional musicians
  • You want a sophisticated and exciting entertainment experience
  • You want a diverse repertoire of Jazz, Latin, Rock and Dance
  • You need 100% reliability and hassle-free organisation

Blythe Tait - vocals and harp
A highly experienced and versatile vocalist, Blythe has performed for many years in a wide range of scenarios - everything from acoustic duos in small restaurants to 10-piece rock bands at 5-star resorts. Blythe has fronted jazz bands, 'top hits' party bands, rock bands and country bands - and she loves all of it! In addition to singing, Blythe is also a professional harpist. She plays a wide range of music drawing on a number of musical traditions, including Classical, Celtic, Medieval, and Popular.

Dave Murtough – piano, trumpet, trombone, and vocals
Dave began his musical career in the early '90s, and is a graduate of the Australian National University in Jazz Performance. Initially a trombonist, he expanded his skills over the years to include trumpet, keys and percussion. He has many years of experience playing jazz, salsa, funk and rock, and has recorded on a number of albums. Dave has performed on television and radio and at major music festivals in the USA, South Pacific and Australia, including the Monterey Jazz Festival (USA), Melanesian Music Festival (Vanuatu), Samoan Jazz Festival, Manly International Jazz Festival (Sydney), and the Thredbo Jazz Festival, to name a few.

How does Undercover Cool achieve the sound of a much larger band?
We are professional musicians who take pride in the quality of our sound. We use the latest technology to achieve the best possible sound for every song - take a listen to our demo tracks and hear for yourself. We have years of experience playing to groups of all sizes so we know how to entertain and respond to the needs of the audience. We put on a great show and we have our own sound and lighting equipment to create the mood for dinner jazz to after-dinner dancing. This means you get:
  • Full band sound at an affordable price
  • Less hassles with volume (see below)
  • A great show including lighting

What 'extras' can Undercover Cool offer?

  • Professional lighting effects
  • High quality amplification
  • Advice on making the most of your music and entertainment
  • Audience interaction

Why should I hire a band instead of a DJ?
Nothing compares to the energy and atmosphere created by live music. If you want a stylish and sophisticated event, nothing beats a classy jazz duo. And when your guests want to party, being entertained by live musicians will make for a much more memorable event.

Can Undercover Cool play if the venue has noise restrictions?
Yes. Many venues don't allow bands that have drums or electric guitars. Undercover Cool uses electronic equipment, which means the volume can be controlled. In addition, the volume of our speakers and other equipment can all be turned down as low as you need. This means you can have a live band without the noise problems (we can be just as quiet as a CD player!). If your venue has noise restrictions, please let us know so we can discuss it with them directly before the event to avoid any misunderstandings on the night.

How long do you play for? How long is each set?
Functions usually run for 4-5 hours. Sets of one hour consist of around 45 minutes playing time and a 15 minute break (this is the entertainment industry standard). However, we work around this timing to accommodate speeches, presentations etc.

A lot of wedding bands sound the same, how is Undercover Cool different?

  • We're professionals - we're easy to work with and you can rely on us to be on time, looking great and playing what you want
  • High quality of our sound and presentation - you get a smooth, professional, fun show that is always appropriate to your event.
  • Our professional experience and qualifications - you get your money's worth.
  • We can control our volume - less hassles with noise restrictions, and you don't have to settle for a CD player.
  • We love what we do - more fun for everyone, and a quality performance.

What about classical music for my wedding cermony?
Undercover Cool is one of the few bands in Brisbane who can provide a classical music option for your ceremony. Blythe is a professional harpist and singer who has an extensive repertoire appropriate for wedding ceremonies. Choose from Classical, Celtic, Medieval, and Popular, she is even open to specific requests.
