Chris Sporton is a musician of over 30 years experience. He has played at hundreds of weddings, and hundreds more birthdays and corporate functions. Specialising in music for the masses, Chris enjoys just playing. No extensive list of high profile one-off events for the C.V., just a proven record of being able to play and impress people like you and your guests. A classically trained pianist and singer, Chris turned to rock and pop music in the late 70s and hasn’t looked back. Add some versatile guitar playing and some background sequencing very faithful to the original recordings, and the result is a ‘one man band’ like you’ve never heard before. Close your eyes and you’ll swear there’s a five piece band playing.
Chris has played in many bands, both original and cover bands and developed a clear understanding of what the punters want to hear. With a song list encompassing the swing era of the forties through to current chart music, versatility is the name of the game. A good musician is able to look at the crowd and play what they want to hear, and this is where Chris excels. People want the music to change in mood as the night goes on. Smooth cool swing jazz starts the night if that’s what you want, and your guests arrive to a relaxed atmosphere with the promise of more to come. When the time comes to dance, the options are plenty. Disco from the 70s, rock n roll from the 50s, pop music of the 60s, new wave 80s music and rock and pop from the 90s and 00s, all according to your tastes and those of your guests. Chris will mix and match whatever you want to cater for your event.
How does one person do all of this? Surely it can’t really sound like a band! But it does. The advantage of classical training is an understanding of musical form and how instruments are played. Traditionally, artists have purchased their ‘midi’ backings commercially, and we all remember hearing that ‘karaoke’ style backing that just doesn’t sound realistic. Chris produces his own backings using midi type techniques with new hardware that produces realistic sounds through digital sampling technology. Slaving away at the keyboard, it can take three or four hours to produce one song true to the original. Listen to the song samples and hear for yourself… at over 350 songs in the list, Chris has spent many many hours working on the music and it sounds great. Of course, add live guitars and vocals and you’ll hear nothing better. Not Just a Singer Are you looking for a different type of function?
