Line up(s) available: solo It is hard to put your finger on exactly what it is about Brianna Carpenter's voice that is so pleasing to the ear, but there is something about her vocal timbre that is impossible to ignore. Brianna Carpenter remembers her childhood and the times she used to play Barbies whilst listening to Elton John. She'd pretend that Ken was Elton & that he was putting on a show for the rest of the Barbies and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figurines. She knew all the lyrics and Elton John was her first musical influence. Ever since then Brianna has been fascinated by song writing. Her song writing has developed over time and through her other influences such as Jeff Buckley, Jamie Cullum, Ben Folds Five and Bic Runga; Brianna now creates a mix of Jazzy Pop Folk music. Even though she was born completely deaf in one ear this has not stopped her drive to compose. Brianna began song writing at the age of 13 and knew she was destined for great things. Her first turning point was performing a "Silent Night" solo at the end of year production in grade one. Her parents didn't even realise she could sing until she was standing up there in front of the entire school singing her little heart out. Brianna's stage pursuits have also stretched into musical theatre and pantomime which were a great way for her to gain some invaluable lessons in stagecraft. Brianna loves a sense of humour and tries to incorporate this into her music. She brings life into the room when she begins to play, she strives to captivate her audiences. She speaks with them, tells them her stories and her travels. Her shows are intimate, like a conversation. She is not from an overly musical background but believes her creative flair has come from her Mother, who is a fashion illustrator and artist. Brianna and her Mother design a lot of the outfits that Brianna wears onstage. Fashion is another passion for Brianna and she has a fresh and vibrant sense of style. Brianna lives in the quiet suburb of Coorparoo on the Southeast side of Brisbane. She recorded her first solo acoustic album "Elements" in December 2003 at the age of 17. In 2005 Brianna travelled to Europe to experience other cultures and take herself out of her comfort zone. She travelled around 13 European countries all by herself at the young age of 19 and found herself to be completely lost a lot of the time! She was suitably inspired by a variety of crazy characters from her journeys and has been writing and gigging in Australia consistently ever since she returned. In 2005 Brianna was shortlisted into the top 10 of the Australian Spirit of Youth Awards along with other artists such as Kisschasy and Wolf & Cub which was a tremendous achievement. 2006 saw Brianna shortlisted to top 5 for the Queensland RockIt awards and in 2007 Brianna was placed 3rd in the Barsoma Singer Songwriter Search. Most recently Brianna was selected as a member of the Top 12 for the popular television show Australian Idol. The publicity and promotion for her music that she gained from being involved with the show has been an incredible boost for Brianna and she is ready to push her career into overdrive. Brianna is studying a Bachelor of Popular Music at the Conservatorium of Music and in October 2005 self-produced and engineered her debut E.P entitled "Spotted". It was an interesting experience for her and was very proud with the response that she received from this release. Brianna is currently working on her newest venture, a full-length debut album to be released mid 2008.
