They have a fresh approach, a fantastic range of well known songs, an unbelievable sound and an intimate approach to their audience. Jazz in the Box began from a simple idea which identified a vast hole in the music scene that was being under serviced. Big Band Jazz sounds with the simplicity of a trio or quartet. Janet Flew (vocals and percussion) Janet began her musical career initially in school choirs where it was identified that she had a unique and outstanding voice. She was then encouraged to take her natural talent further and began training under Glenda Walsh (one of Australia’s leading vocal coaches who worked with Kate Ceberano, and herself appeared in many musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair and is currently a judge on the Australian talent show “The X Factor”. Glenda has described Janet as one of her star pupils who has a voice that “people just love to listen to”. Janet’s vocal style has been described as Ricky Lee Jones with a lot more sex appeal. She has had an illustrious career having played with How do you do, Simplicity, Day Gig, Changes and The Roxton 5. Janet recently completed a great season of the musical “Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat” with Phoenix Theatre in the role of “Mrs Potiphar”.
Michael began his music career at the age of 5 by studying piano under the tutelage of the well known German pianist Kurt Black where he successfully completed 6th grade classical piano before turning his hand to Jazz Piano which he studied under well known Australian Jazz aficionado, Terry Clark. Concurrently, he studied voice under Madame Dianne Dubarry who was responsible for many of the young vocal stars in Australia during the 1970’s and was lead soprano in the Lourdes Boys Choir. At the age of 15, Michael made a change of musical career where he took on the bass which has been his mainstay for the last 25 years playing regularly in bands such as The Rave, They Might be Giants, Communique, Jimmy Nastics and the Crash Mats, The Naughty Boys, Big Deal, The Fitzgerald Brothers and Get Serious.
Ever since he can remember, Cody has been playing the Piano. After studying extensively and excelling at the highest level in Classical Piano, he felt the need to stretch his wings and move into the free form world of Jazz. He has a Bachelor of Music (Honours) and has been professionally performing for many years. He has performed in eisteddfods along with accompanying, directing and teaching for students and various theatre companies. In 2005 Cody performed in “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”, at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, “Fame” with the Dandenong Theatre Company and the Australian Premiere of “Steel Pier” for CLOC Musical Theatre.
