The music is undeniably ‘gypsy’, with scorching Balkan melodies played over relentlessly tight and funky rhythms. According to Beat Magazine the sound of the band ‘reflects the unique experience of a ‘gypsy’ band raised on Melbourne dance-floors’. The Woohoo Revue’s show conjures up images of the circus. Their act features old-world class, theatrical entertainment and childish joy performed by six musicians who might have been trained from childhood by an overbearing Russian ringmaster.
After debuting with a residency at the Evelyn Hotel, the band has played a host of shows at some of Melbourne’s top venues such as the Corner Hotel, Bar Open, The Evelyn, The Retreat and Ruby’s Lounge, and has quickly risen to be a favourite amongst Melbourne punters and festival goers. Following the release of their CD, The Woohoo Revue hit the road and played tour shows throughout NSW, the ACT and Tasmania, joining bands such as Mojo Juju and The Snake Oil Merchants, The Crooked Fiddle Band and Mr Fibby along the way. The band has also fast established itself on the festival circuit by getting the big crowds dancing at Folk Rhythm and Life, High Vibes, The Village Festival, The Maya Festival, The Serpent Festival The St Kilda Festival and the Brunswick Music Festival.
