Jazz Bands Traditional/ Dixieland Jazz

The Jazz Bands Traditional/Dixieland category consists of musicians who focus on the early, traditional form of Jazz. Dixieland Jazz refers to musicians who play one of the earliest forms of Jazz, from New Orleans, Louisiana. Developed by African-Americans in the early 20th century, It is Jazz with an element of Blues and Country and Western, and is one of the regional styles that contributed to the jazz sound we know today.

The Martini Sisters are a fresh, entertaining trio of singers that have captured the sound of the girl groups of the 1930s and 1940s, and brought it to the 21st century. Heavily influenced by the 3 part harmonies of groups like the Andrews Sisters and the Boswell Sisters, The Martini Sisters bring a new sound to an old style.  The Martini Sisters have expanded their repertoire to include covers from music made famous by some of the greats, including Nina Simone and Cab Calloway. Their repertoire also includes songs performed by more recent artists such as The Puppini Sisters and Gwen Stefani.

Los Trios Quartet comprises some of Melbourne’s finest young jazz talent. Offering a sophisticated blend of styles – from toe-tapping swing, to a sultry bossa-nova to a groovin’ soul classic. These gifted performers will bring the right sound to your function, wedding or party. The quartet is also available as a vocal group (drums, double-bass, guitar, vocals) featuring the beautiful and talented Sacha.

Bois et Charbon play a unique variation on traditional Swing music known as Jazz Manouche. The music is full of passion and colour and played in the flamboyant spirit of the original forebearers of the music, nomadic Gypsies from the South of France called the ‘Manouche’.  Professional and reliable performers, they have been favourably received at weddings, birthdays, community events and festivals as well as performing to high acclaim at inner city bars and restaurants. 

The Cubano Highball Trio are three fine musicians playing Jazz, Latin and Funk for the corporate and wedding scene in Brisbane. The group sizzles with a stylish interplay of piano, bass and percussion, bringing any sized space to life. Among others, the ensemble has been received warmly at functions hosted by Premier Peter Beattie at Parliament house and also by Lord Mayor Campbell Newman in City Hall. The Cubano Highball Trio offer hours of repertoire, a professional attitude and can provide their own P.A. system.

The Cat’s Kitchen is available for your wedding, birthday or function. Debra Blaquiere performs with a quartet, and also a duo or trio, in more intimate settings. Her repertoire presents original jazz compositions, and very familiar pop, jazz, folk, blues and show tunes. Debra’s collection of song titles draws from a diverse range of influences that have enabled Debra to create her own unique style. She is a product of our time, and plays respectful homage to those who have influenced her such as Doris Day, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole Trio and the composers both pop and jazz of great American songwriters Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Joni Mitchell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Burt Bacharach and many more.

Jelly Tub Rollers play thigh-slappin' 1930s party jazz and blues. Featuring the flying feet and raucous rhythms of Thomas the Tap Engine, these over-dressed super-swing vaudevillians are guaranteed to get your party jumping! Combining the driving beat of drums, double bass and guitar with the tickles and moans of saxophone, trombone and vocals, the Jelly Tub Rollers bring an old-world energy to classic and original jazz tunes. To this day, Jelly Tub Rollers retain the spontaneity of their busking roots, and the joy of sharing their passion for music with a diverse audience, now performing at various venues, festivals, weddings and parties around Victoria.

Sally Street is a uniquely entertaining jazz and blues artist based in Sydney. In essence, Sally Street puts the muse back into music and brings the razzle dazzle into the magical world of jazz. Sally's debut album “Little Evil Me”, released under the Newmarket Music label offers a repertoire of tantalizing jazz and blues delights bubbling with mellifluous flights of fancy that will entrance and delight any pair of ears. Sally regularly performs at jazz venues as far and wide as the Opera Bar at Sydney Opera House to the Gold Coast Jazz and Blues Club in Surfers Paradise, and at private functions and weddings.

Sarah Dwyer is a jazz vocalist whose choice of music and penchant for period costume effortlessly transports her audience back to the clubs and dancehalls of the 1920’s to the 1940’s. Sarah’s voice simmers, as she toys with the well known melodies of traditional jazz standards. She is accompanied by Michael Brown, an accomplished guitarist who effortlessly infuses their timeless repertoire with a fresh and colourful sound. Harry Lynn Quartet started the jazz phenomenon that is Jazz in The Basement based at the Gold Coast Arts Centre Queensland, Australia, in June 2004.

Since then the band has accompanied some of the best jazz performers available today - not only local talent - but also those who are celebrated worldwide including jazz legends George Washingmachine, Lynn Rogers, John Hoffman, Linda Weston, Clayton Davis, Melissa Western, Max Miller, Tom Nicolson, Dinah Williams, Willy Qua, Sandie White, Airstream, Ashley Lewis, and Australia's Queen of Jazz Singers, Ingrid James.

A unique contemporary jazz act. The proposition of the trio is to involve the audience in the conversation proposed by the musicians. A very exiting act resembling the classic jazz interaction within a contemporary jazz trio, consisting of Pat Valdivieso (guitar), hayley Jones (bass) and Jarrod Bisemann (Drums). In this repertoire you will find everything, from the most up-tempo bebop tunes, to the very chilled Bossa, swing and some backbeat funk tunes also are involved.

Experience the groovy sound of the Hammond Organ with Sydney's leading jazz organist Darren Heinrich. Jazz, Blues and Funky stuff performed with great interaction and groove. In addition to a 1st class Honours degree from the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Darren has over 20 years experience performing Jazz/Blues/Funk/Latin/Soul on both Piano and Hammond Organ. His influences incorporate the entire spectrum of the Jazz idiom, from its earliest ragtime roots to modern jazz.

The Swing Club is a unit of musicians currently performing jazz, rhythm and blues, swing and Latin classics at various venues and private functions in and around Melbourne.
Providing a proven and balanced repertoire, catering for a wide variety of audience tastes, The Swing Club consists of two founding members, Steven Zammit (Vocals) and Mark Rigoni (Guitar).
