Jazz Bands

The Jazz Band category is a list of musicians who play Jazz in the broad contemporary definition, as the sound may be influenced by other styles and genres. Jazz is characterized by strong, flexible rhythms and improvisation. It originated as a combination of spirituals, Swing, Blues, Dixieland, Country and Western and ragtime traditions.

Jazz in the Box are an outstanding outfit that play an eclectic range of music in the jazz genre. They have a fresh approach, a fantastic range of well known songs, an unbelievable sound and an intimate approach to their audience. Jazz in the Box began from a simple idea which identified a vast hole in the music scene that was being under serviced. Big Band Jazz sounds with the simplicity of a trio or quartet.

The Martini Sisters are a fresh, entertaining trio of singers that have captured the sound of the girl groups of the 1930s and 1940s, and brought it to the 21st century. Heavily influenced by the 3 part harmonies of groups like the Andrews Sisters and the Boswell Sisters, The Martini Sisters bring a new sound to an old style.  The Martini Sisters have expanded their repertoire to include covers from music made famous by some of the greats, including Nina Simone and Cab Calloway. Their repertoire also includes songs performed by more recent artists such as The Puppini Sisters and Gwen Stefani.

The Koll Kollective is renowned for their class, style and versatility. From corporate events to intimate private parties, this band’s large repertoire consists of jazzy intimate dinner music, soulful funky grooves and classic and contemporary dance floor hits. Featuring the beautiful vocals of Sunny Koll, the members of this band have worked with such icons as Missy Higgins, The Little River Band, Dancing With The Stars, Birtles Shorrock Gobles, Renee Geyer, Deborah Byrne, The Cat Empire and Pete Murray.

The Urban Gypsies are an instrumental Jazz/ Latin/ Classical/ Contemporary guitar duo. They also perform as a trio with percussion/ violin, or as a quartet with the addition of bass. They represent an exciting direction in Latin / Classical mixed with funk, rumba and gypsy swing. The music varies from fiery guitar virtuosity through to lounge bossa nova, classical pieces and popular classics.

Kind of Blue are a Melbourne based Jazz band who are perfect to play for your event, whether it be a corporate function, Bar Mitzvah, wedding, party, café, bar, or restaurant; especially for some soothing and grooving background music. Bradley McCaw & The Get Happy’s (BM & The GH) are bringing back the presence and style of ‘the jazz clubs of old.’ Featuring old time stage presence, some of Brisbane’s finest musicians and lead by the beautiful tenor voice of Bradley McCaw, BM & The GH bring you a night of first class entertainment. Los Trios Quartet comprises some of Melbourne’s finest young jazz talent. Offering a sophisticated blend of styles – from toe-tapping swing, to a sultry bossa-nova to a groovin’ soul classic. These gifted performers will bring the right sound to your function, wedding or party. The quartet is also available as a vocal group (drums, double-bass, guitar, vocals) featuring the beautiful and talented Sacha.

One Night Wonders are a Melbourne based 5 piece group of the highest Calibre. They are a muti-faceted band that feature either as an exciting Funk/Soul Covers Group or an intimate Jazz Ensemble.
Funk/Soul Covers: Features the band in top gear performing Soul/Funk and Blues tunes that keep the dance floor vigorous and the crowd singing and clapping. With stunning lead female + male vocals, rich harmonies, lively beats and an exuberance unrivalled One Nite Wonders are your first choice.

Graham has developed his playing skills in classical, contemporary, relaxation/new age, jazz and blues: He brings to one’s establishment a wealth of experience and an accomplished contrast in styles. His playing appeals to the differing musical tastes of any audience whose attraction may range from the mellow introspective sound of new age piano to that of distinctive blues, the groove of jazz, bounce of honky-tonk, contemporary piano, or that of beautiful and charming classical.

Velvet Lilo is an exciting new corporate, function and wedding band presenting Jazz, Soul, Disco, Groove and Funk music. The band performs an eclectic mix of songs by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind and Fire, Bill Withers, Tower of Power, The Metres, and more.

Bois et Charbon play a unique variation on traditional Swing music known as Jazz Manouche. The music is full of passion and colour and played in the flamboyant spirit of the original forebearers of the music, nomadic Gypsies from the South of France called the ‘Manouche’.  Professional and reliable performers, they have been favourably received at weddings, birthdays, community events and festivals as well as performing to high acclaim at inner city bars and restaurants. 

Lauren Lucille is a young, up and coming jazz singer from Brisbane, with performances behind her such as the Brisbane Jazz Club, Gold Coast Arts Centre, Broadbeach Jazz Festival and many more. She sings jazz standards, pop tunes and some originals. Influences include Tierney Sutton and Kurt Elling.

Our three to six piece event and functions band "The Bazkatz" will entertain you through cocktails and dinner with quality background and lounge sounds, incorporating your favourite jazz, latin and chilled-out music. After dinner, is when the dance floor comes alive to the sounds of the Bazkatz; our experience in the music business and our enthusiasm will have everyone up on the floor with dance music to suit many tastes.

The Cubano Highball Trio are three fine musicians playing Jazz, Latin and Funk for the corporate and wedding scene in Brisbane. The group sizzles with a stylish interplay of piano, bass and percussion, bringing any sized space to life. Among others, the ensemble has been received warmly at functions hosted by Premier Peter Beattie at Parliament house and also by Lord Mayor Campbell Newman in City Hall. The Cubano Highball Trio offer hours of repertoire, a professional attitude and can provide their own P.A. system.

The Cat’s Kitchen is available for your wedding, birthday or function. Debra Blaquiere performs with a quartet, and also a duo or trio, in more intimate settings. Her repertoire presents original jazz compositions, and very familiar pop, jazz, folk, blues and show tunes. Debra’s collection of song titles draws from a diverse range of influences that have enabled Debra to create her own unique style. She is a product of our time, and plays respectful homage to those who have influenced her such as Doris Day, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole Trio and the composers both pop and jazz of great American songwriters Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Joni Mitchell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Burt Bacharach and many more.

VCA graduate Glenn and Jessica Paige have been wowing people for the last 18 months with their delicious jazz- influenced interpretations of some of the most beautiful songs ever written. Glenn is a master guitarist and a seasoned international performer. Jessica has a swag full of national and international awards for her songwriting and performance skills including an APRA award and a JB (John Butler) Seed Award.

Lady Jam is a 4 piece funk/soul/jazz band, playing covers as well as original music including artists such as Erykah badu, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder and Billie Holiday. In addition to the 4 piece, the line up can be extended up to include saxaphone, percussion and trumpet. Lady Jam play weekly in Sydney-based clubs/hotels and corporate functions and weddings.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is a new collaboration between veteran musician Gavin Libotte and jazz singer Niyati Parikh. Gavin plays fiery original guitar music with his jazz Latin fusion bands, the Urban Gypsies and BandaMundo. Niyati has sung at numerous venues including the caves and boulevards of France's underground Jazz haunts. Together they bring you a mix of soft, romantic music with plenty of ambience and a touch of class combined with a large repertoire of up tempo popular songs. Specialising in music for your wedding or event.

Jelly Tub Rollers play thigh-slappin' 1930s party jazz and blues. Featuring the flying feet and raucous rhythms of Thomas the Tap Engine, these over-dressed super-swing vaudevillians are guaranteed to get your party jumping! Combining the driving beat of drums, double bass and guitar with the tickles and moans of saxophone, trombone and vocals, the Jelly Tub Rollers bring an old-world energy to classic and original jazz tunes. To this day, Jelly Tub Rollers retain the spontaneity of their busking roots, and the joy of sharing their passion for music with a diverse audience, now performing at various venues, festivals, weddings and parties around Victoria.
