Alternative Music

The category of Alternative music includes artists that play underground music (not mainstream or commercial). The term 'Alternative' was coined in the 1980's and became popular in the 1990's, describing bands that couldn't fit into existing genres. Usually belonging to independent music labels, musicians in this category could be Grunge, Indie, or a fusion of genres.

Jessica Paige is a 23 yr old multi award-winning young singer-songwriter of beautiful songs. Hailed by leading industry bible The Music Network as having "one of the best voices we have heard all year and gorgeous lyrics to match" and recently featured in Rolling Stone, Australian Musician magazine and on Foxtel's "Launch of Legends" documentary, Jessica's charismatic and quirky performances captivate her discerning, music-loving audiences.

19 year old Josh Romig plays covers and his own original songs as well. He plays solo and sometimes in duo form with his acclaimed singer-songwriter sister, Jessica Paige. Josh can play 2 - 3 sets for your party, wedding or special event and entertain all ages with a growing repertoire of songs. He has a love of styles ranging from golden oldies to modern hits and everything in between.

A solo piano and vocal act, Nate Swain has been a singer-songwriter for around 2 years. He has a large reportoire of original songs in an emotional and uniquely urban style. Performing for as long as you need him, Nate will be sure to make your audiences laugh, cry and become inspired by his unique voice and music. Nate is also a trained actor and dancer.

Her song writing has developed over time and through her other influences such as Jeff Buckley, Jamie Cullum, Ben Folds Five and Bic Runga; Brianna now creates a mix of Jazzy Pop Folk music. She brings life into the room when she begins to play, she strives to captivate her audiences. She speaks with them, tells them her stories and her travels. Her shows are intimate, like a conversation. Most recently Brianna was selected as a member of the Top 12 for the popular television show Australian Idol.

Fusing roots, jazz and pop in a powerful one-woman show, singer-songwriter Megan Bowman is a magnetic ‘must have’ live performer. A 2006 John Butler Seed grant recipient, Megan is "sexy and intoxicating" (WLIB/WBLS Radio, NYC) and an independent artist who is “taking on the world and winning it over one heart at a time” (Inpress Magazine, Melbourne). Raw passion, dynamic vocals and diverse acoustic instrumentation ensure Megan’s shows are captivating and never the same twice. Music-loving crowds love Megan. Whatever the occasion, Megan brings her passion, professionalism and personality to the party.

Ben Hauptmann is nationally recognized jazz guitarist finishing 2nd in the National Jazz Awards at the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz 07’. He also plays the Mandolin, Banjo and Pipa (Chinese Lute) as well as the Tiple and Charango (traditional instruments from South America). He studied music at the A.N.U. Canberra School of Music (98’-02’) from which he received a B.Mus. with 1st class honors in Jazz performance.

With blistering finger-picking guitar solos, lung popping harmonica riffs and freight train beats of the drums; there’s an initial ‘dear in the headlights’ moment that happens the first time audiences see Jimmy play. Whether it’s busting out solos’ while playing a lap slide standing up or singing a sweet and heartfelt ballad, he dances between genres' and styles to create a unique, transfixing and intimate performance, that soon has audiences bouncing up and down.

An Accomplished guitarist, James has performed over 400 shows with some of the country’s biggest hard rock and metal acts. He has now turned his attention towards a solo career playing original and cover songs. James has already received rave reviews since first setting out on this path in January 2010.

Conspiracy of influence are a 3 piece alternate rock band from the far north coast of NSW. In September 2009 the band released an album titled “The Johnston Street Experiment”. The bands sound cross a number of genres including rock, pop, metal, and electro. Some of the songs have been described as sounding 80’s due to the use of synthesizers, some tracks are also quiet heavy with distorted guitars and metal drum beats.

Jibba Jabba are a new and exiting cover band who have been playing live shows about Melbourne over the past 18 months. Covering classic to current rock they appeal to all ages. From Bairnsdale to Bright, Pakenham to Chadstone, these guys are self sufficient and are happy to travel to bring you a great show. Covering classic rock, such as Led Zeppelin, Choir boys and the Hoodoo Gurus, with current rock from The Killers, Kings of Leon and Greenday, they can appeal any audience and age group. With a large playlist at hand they can cater to your specific needs or play the crowd’s favorite tunes!

Together they envisioned a band that would leave out the tried candy floss of cover band entertainment, that would perform music of integrity for which they knew there existed a large audience - of those that craved The Cure, David Bowie, The Presets, Joy Division, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Dandy Warhols and so on.

Nitidus don’t claim to be the Hard Rock Artist of The Year, they let their LA Music Award speak for itself. The band have an agenda to bring hard rock to the masses, delivering an intense and uncompromising live show. Inspired by the genre’s finest - The Rolling Stones, Guns n Roses, Black Crowes, and Pearl Jam - Nitidus attract both traditional rock fans and a range ofniche audiences.

Lionel Lee is the unrestrained chariot, the swerving vehicle for singer/songwriter Matthew E Baird’s meditations on the darker side of what some refer to as Southern Gothic or Gothic Country music. Matthew E Baird prefers to describe his laments as simply being: “tales of bitterness with just a dash of sweet sherry. However, no matter the titles or tags attached, it’s just good old fashioned story telling”.

We're Velvet Mojo from Newcastle, Australia. We're a Funk/Rock trio comprising of Mat "Hoyo" Hoy on Vocals & Bass, Dan "Funky Dan" Huish on Guitar & James "Goonbag" Hunt on drums. We've been gigging round Newy for nearly 2 years now racking up arount 50 shows but are extremely keen to hit the road & start spreading the word. Our sound is reminiscent of early Red Hot Chilli Peppers, John Butler Trio and Grinspoon mashed in a blender with cheap wine & bourbon & served Hot! (Pipin' Hot)

The band enjoys writing and performing their strong, progressive acoustic music as they do their powered rock sound. The band was born in 2001 with influences steming from a broad range of styles and consists of Talaela Wilce (Vocals), Blair Caporn (Guitar), Joel Howard (Bass) and Joel Denholm (Drums).

The OCD Plan are an alternative indie rock sound which can't really be likened to anyone else. With a very energetic live show and many differernt set lists.
